ChatGPT Space gives you a place to turn scattered AI work into pages your team can find, edit, and review. Instead of leaving a project brief or meeting summary buried in a conversation, you can make it a page, organize it with related material, and decide who can see or change it.
The distinction matters: Space is for the work product; Projects still organize chats, files, and project instructions. OpenAI says Space replaces Library for accounts with access to the new experience, but it does not replace Projects. Rollout is gradual, so your account may not show Space yet.
What is a page, and what is a space?
A page is an editable document. It could be a product brief, meeting note, research summary, or weekly update. You can write directly, ask ChatGPT for a targeted revision, and collaborate with people who have edit access. Pages can contain subpages, which is useful when a short overview needs supporting notes.
A space groups related pages, files, and folders. You have a personal space and can organize other work by topic or team. Think of a space as the container and a page as one piece of content inside it—not as a replacement for a ChatGPT conversation.
For a small development team, a “Website launch” space might contain a launch brief, a content checklist, and weekly decision notes. That keeps the current plan visible without asking someone to reconstruct it from several chats.
Space vs. Library vs. Projects
| Feature | Best use | What changes with Space |
|---|---|---|
| Space | Create, organize, and share editable pages and related files | New home for work products on eligible accounts |
| Library | Find and reuse stored files | Space replaces Library where Space is available |
| Projects | Keep chats, project files, and instructions together | Remains separate and continues to work |
This is not a forced migration of your project instructions into pages. Keep durable project context in Projects; put a brief, report, or deliverable in Space when people need to read and collaborate on it.
How to create a useful page
If Space is available on your account, start with one bounded document:
- Ask ChatGPT to create a space with a clear name, such as “Website launch.”
- In a relevant conversation, ask it to create a page in that space with the goals, decisions, owners, and next steps.
- Open the page and check names, dates, calculations, and source links before sharing it.
- Use comments for feedback on a passage; use the page chat for broader revisions.
An example prompt:
Create a project overview page in the Website launch space from this conversation. Include the agreed scope, unresolved decisions, owners, and next milestones. Mark anything that is an assumption. Do not share the page yet.
OpenAI says you can also start writing in Space or use a template. Pages may include charts, trackers, or interactive elements created with ChatGPT, but verify the underlying numbers before using them for decisions.
Sharing: the permission detail teams should not miss
You can share a page for viewing or editing, and access may come from a direct invitation, a parent page, or the containing space. A subpage inherits access from its parent. Moving a page under a different parent can therefore change who can read it. In a managed workspace, administrator settings may restrict the sharing options.
Files uploaded into a page follow that page’s permissions. A link to a separately stored file does not grant access to the original file; its existing permissions still apply. But if you copy or summarize private source material onto a shared page, everyone who can view that page can read the copied information. Review the actual page content, not just the link permissions.
Sharing a page does not reveal your private chats or your ChatGPT Memory. Each collaborator uses their own ChatGPT. OpenAI also notes that a collaborator’s own data-control settings can apply when their agent works with shared content. Business and Enterprise data is not used to train OpenAI models by default. Check your workspace policy before putting client or confidential information in a shared page.
Availability and launch limits
OpenAI currently lists Pro, Business, and Enterprise for creating and editing Space content. The rollout is gradual; some eligible accounts may not have it yet. For Business or Enterprise workspaces using data residency in Canada or the United Arab Emirates, OpenAI says Space is coming soon.
You can create and edit pages on the web or in the ChatGPT desktop app. On mobile, you can find, read, share, and navigate pages, but not edit them. OpenAI also says Slides and Sheets are coming soon, and automatic page updates through “Keep updated” are not available at launch. Do not plan a workflow around those features until they appear in your account.
Where Space fits in a real workflow
Space is most useful when AI output needs an accountable home. For example, after a client discovery call, a team could create a requirements page, add a subpage for open questions, and share it with the people reviewing scope. ChatGPT can help revise the document, but a person should confirm the requirements and approve any external commitments.
If you are deciding how to connect AI tools to your delivery process, FindMilan’s AI consulting service can help define the source material, permissions, and review steps. For work that ends in a customer-facing product, our website development and mobile app development services can turn an approved brief into an implementation plan. Our Canadian Tank Museum digital guide project shows the kind of structured digital experience that benefits from a clear, reviewed content brief.
The practical starting point is one page with an owner and a review step. If that improves how your team finds and updates information, expand the space deliberately.

Frequently asked questions
What is ChatGPT Space?
Space is a place in ChatGPT to create and organize editable pages, uploaded files, and related work. You can use ChatGPT to help write pages and share them with collaborators.
Does Space replace Projects?
No. Space replaces Library for accounts that have Space access. Projects continue to organize project chats, files, and instructions separately.
Who can create pages in Space?
OpenAI currently lists ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise for creating and editing Space content, subject to gradual rollout and workspace controls. Some regional data-residency workspaces are still waiting for access.
Can I edit Space pages on my phone?
Not currently. OpenAI says mobile supports finding, reading, sharing, and navigating pages, while editing is available on the web and in the desktop app.
Does sharing a Space page share my private chats or connected files?
Sharing a page does not give collaborators your private chats or ChatGPT Memory. However, text placed on the page is visible to people with access, uploaded files follow page permissions, and links to separate files retain their original access rules.
