Vercel’s updated Hobby and Pro terms make credit expiry, renewal timing and company-managed accounts worth reviewing before the next billing cycle. This is an operational account-management story, not an announcement that every Vercel plan has become more expensive.
The official October 19 changelog says the changes are effective that day. Vercel describes a mixture of clarified existing practices, expanded credit and managed-account provisions, and applicable consumer requirements. The current Terms of Service are the primary contract reference; this article is practical reporting, not legal advice.
Credit balances are not all the same
Section 18.3 distinguishes credits included with a self-service subscription from credits purchased separately. That distinction matters when estimating the value of a balance shown in a dashboard.
| Credit type | General expiry rule |
|---|---|
| Plan-included credits | End of the subscription term |
| Separately purchased credits | One year after purchase, unless stated otherwise |
Credits are prepaid amounts usable toward Vercel fees, not cash. They are nontransferable and generally nonrefundable, subject to stated exceptions and applicable law. The terms provide a refund of unused purchased credits if Vercel terminates the account without cause.
The phrase unless stated otherwise is important. A product-specific offer or purchase can have different conditions. Do not apply a general one-year assumption to every Vercel balance; my Token Pass guide concerns a separate product with its own limits.
My recommendation: record the credit type, purchase date, applicable product terms and expiry alongside the budget owner. A headline balance without an expiry is not a reliable spending plan.
Renewal and cancellation timing need an owner
The terms describe automatic renewal unless renewal is disabled in advance. Ordinary cancellation or downgrade generally takes effect at the start of the next renewal period, rather than immediately erasing the current subscription obligation.
Mandatory withdrawal or cooling-off rights may apply to qualifying consumers. Those provisions should not be generalized into a promise that every business can cancel at any time for a full refund.
The update also clarifies that identified third-party pass-through rates may change with provider rates. That is not the same as an announced increase to every Hobby or Pro plan price.
For an agency or small development team, I would assign one person to review renewal dates, usage alerts, credit expiry and customer ownership. If several client applications share an account, document who can approve spend and who receives billing notices before a renewal becomes urgent.
Work-email accounts need a separation plan
The changelog describes a dedicated managed-account section for company-domain email addresses. It says a company can manage projects created within its own Team, including ownership and access—not that every personal project automatically becomes company property.
The full section 6 also covers account discovery, verified-domain Team membership and managed-account conversion. Where an organization requires accounts using its domain to be managed, Vercel may suspend the existing account and provision a managed one. Notice and a reasonable period to move content to a different email address are part of that process.
A managed account follows the agreement between the organization and Vercel. An account maintained under a different email address continues under the self-service agreement.
My practical interpretation: separate personal and company work deliberately. Keep personal recovery access independent of an employer-controlled mailbox, use the correct Team for client projects and maintain backups. Do not transfer live projects or change production ownership without checking domains, deployment access and billing consequences first.
UK and EU consumer provisions have a specific scope
Section 25 describes a right for UK or EU consumers where a service modification has more than a minor negative impact on access or use. The affected subscription can be terminated free of charge within 30 days of notice or the modification, whichever is later, with a prorated refund of prepaid amounts for the remaining period.
That is a scoped provision, not a universal Canadian business cancellation entitlement. Customer status, location and the governing agreement matter. For a dispute or material contract decision, consult the contract owner or a qualified adviser instead of treating this summary as a legal determination.
Vercel also moved service-specific provisions to a separate Service Terms page. A review should include the services actually in use rather than stopping at the general terms.
A practical review before your next billing cycle
- Inventory subscriptions, renewal dates and billing contacts.
- Separate included credits from purchased credits and product-specific balances.
- Check expiry and refund rules against the applicable purchase terms.
- Review work-email accounts and the Teams that own production projects.
- Verify backups, recovery access and migration dependencies before any account change.
- Route contract questions to the right owner; do not cancel a production dependency as an experiment.

Frequently asked questions
When did Vercel update the Hobby and Pro terms?
The official changelog gives October 19, 2026 as the effective date. It describes clarified and expanded provisions, not a blanket plan-price increase.
Do unused Vercel credits roll over?
Not automatically. Included credits expire with the subscription term; separately purchased credits generally expire after one year unless other terms apply.
Does a company email give an employer control of every personal project?
No blanket transfer is described. Company Team projects and managed-account conversion are separate issues; read the full notice and keep personal and company work appropriately separated.
Do the UK and EU service-change rights automatically apply to Canadian businesses?
No. The described provision applies to qualifying UK or EU consumers. Obtain advice on the rights that apply to your actual contract and circumstances.
