ChatGPT Pro 200 Usage Is Changing: What Pro 500, Credits, and Dots Mean

If you pay for ChatGPT Pro 200, the important change is simple: OpenAI is keeping the $200 monthly price but reducing the plan’s included usage after October 29, 2026 for affected existing subscribers. A new $500 monthly Pro tier offers more included usage and Ultrafast. An account-specific credit grant may soften the transition, but it is not a permanent increase to the Pro 200 allowance.

OpenAI’s current Pro-tier help page confirms the pricing, grandfathering window, lower future allowance, and Ultrafast eligibility. Specific numerical limits below come from a Pro 200 subscriber notice shared with FindMilan; users should check their own account’s notice and usage screen before making a plan decision.

What changes on October 30?

For an affected existing Pro 200 account, the subscriber notice says the combined ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance moves from 20 times to 10 times the Plus allowance. It also says the GPT-6 Pro limit in Chat moves from 200 to 100 messages per week. These are different limits: Work and Codex share an agentic-work allowance, while GPT-6 Pro in ordinary Chat has its own message cap.

OpenAI says qualifying subscribers keep their previous included Pro 200 allowance through October 29, 2026, provided their subscription remains active. After that, the lower included allowance applies and the plan price stays $200 per month. Newly subscribing users who are not eligible for grandfathering already receive the updated lower allowance. The subscriber notice also says OpenAI is not bringing back a five-hour limit; that does not make the weekly allowance unlimited.

The practical consequence is not necessarily “half as many completed tasks.” Task usage depends on model, reasoning level, context size, and output. But the headline included allowance in the notice is halved. Heavy Work and Codex users should look at actual usage rather than relying on the multiplier alone.

Where Pro 500 fits

OpenAI now lists three personal Pro tiers: Pro 100 at $100/month, Pro 200 at $200/month, and Pro 500 at $500/month. Pro 500 has the highest included usage and is the only personal Pro tier with Ultrafast at launch. The subscriber notice describes Pro 500 as offering Work and Codex usage equivalent to 25 times Plus and faster generation, but actual availability and speed depend on the supported model and task.

Ultrafast is an access distinction, not just an extra credit balance. OpenAI says buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock Ultrafast at launch. Its Work and Codex guidance currently describes Ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra on eligible Pro 500 accounts. Check the live model picker for the model and speed available to you.

Do not upgrade purely because the larger number looks safer. Compare the last few weeks of your actual Work and Codex usage, the cost of any extra credits, and whether faster model output is genuinely important to your work. A small team doing occasional coding tasks may find Pro 200 sufficient; a team regularly hitting the included allowance may benefit from a different tier.

What about the one-time credits?

Some subscriber notices may include a personal, one-time promotional credit grant with its own expiry. That grant is not a new standard Pro 200 entitlement, not a refund, and not cash. We are intentionally not publishing any recipient’s personal amount or assuming every subscriber has the same offer.

OpenAI says supported features use the plan’s included allowance first, then eligible credits. Credits can support eligible use in Codex, ChatGPT Work, and some document tools, but not every ChatGPT model or feature. If you receive an offer, confirm its amount, supported uses, and expiration in Settings → Usage and in the exact subscriber notice. An offer-specific expiration may differ from the ordinary rules for purchased credits.

This matters because a large temporary balance can make the transition feel painless until it expires. Plan your ongoing usage against the new recurring allowance, not the one-time grant.

Are Dots included too?

OpenAI has also introduced Dots, always-on agents that can pursue ongoing goals with their own cloud computer and connected apps. The subscriber notice says conversations with a dot and tasks it performs directly are included separately from ordinary ChatGPT usage. But when a dot starts a ChatGPT Work or Codex task, those underlying tools continue to count against their normal allowances. “Dots included” does not mean unlimited coding or agentic work.

What Pro 200 subscribers should do now

1. Open Settings → Usage and note your current Work and Codex usage, resets, and any credit balance.
2. Read your own OpenAI plan-change email for account-specific dates, message limits, credit terms, and expiry.
3. Check Settings → My Plan before changing tiers. Do not assume that retaining the old allowance temporarily gives you Pro 500 or Ultrafast.
4. After October 30, compare real task throughput and any credit spending for a week or two before deciding whether Pro 500 is worth the higher monthly price.

The plan change is real, but the best response depends on what you actually use. If you rarely approach the allowance, there may be nothing to change. If your development workflow depends on long Codex or Work sessions every day, measure the new limit early and make a decision from your own usage data.
